Girls Friendly Society

Borden had a Girls Friendly Society, at least in the 1920s, from the newspaper article below.

If you have any pictures or information we can add to this page then please get in touch.

The Girls Friendly Society is a national charity and was formed in 1875.

It was originally established to address, through Christianvalues, the problems of working-class unmarried girls and young women who wished to better themselves.

The main organisation in the early 2000s, moved to a secular model supporting girls and young women of all religions and none.

This scarf was donated by past member Jean Barton. The scarf reads ‘Girls Friendly Society World Council & Centenary 1875-1975’
