I first started to work for Whiteheads dairies for extra pocket money, the dairy was situated in Munsgore Lane about halfway between Borden school and Oad Street. I was about thirteen and even though mum and dad gave me pocket money I was always told that if I wanted something then I had to work for it! So I asked our local milkman Dave e Spinks if he needed a hand on the weekends and school holidays, and that’s how it all started. I first had to apply for a work pass to prove my age.
