September 2026 News
On a warm July Saturday afternoon, we took part in the Borden Fete, in the grounds of the Maypole Inn, our display created a great deal of interest and we gained some new members as well as new information and photographs for the BHG website. Our Quoits game proved to be good fun for all age groups and was run by a volunteer group of members who worked a rota throughout the afternoon.
On an extremely hot morning in August we met at The Bell Road Cemetery, we are grateful to Steve Palmer for his very interesting and well planned tour of the Commonwealth War Graves and to hear the stories of some of the 71 men buried there. The tour included stories behind some of these men and an introduction to the formation and work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Steve was kind enough to do a repeat performance of his morning tour in the very hot afternoon to ensure that group numbers were kept at a safe level.
We have recently added a ‘Farming’ section to the Archives on our website bordenheritage.co.uk and we are putting together a collection of photos sent to us by members and friends; if you have any stories, memories or photographs we would be really pleased to add them to our collection on the website.
Please email them to me and I will arrange for them to me posted on the website.
Our next meeting will take place in Borden Parish hall on September 9th when
Dr. Paul Staker will tell us ‘The History of a Surgery in Sittingbourne’
